Name: Alicia Penhorwood

Age: 28

Where are you right now- tell us what you can see? I’m currently sitting on my bed with my cat Fig next to me and some giant euro pillows working as my desk. Comfort is key!

What did you have for breakfast? This morning I had a Pear & Walnut Friand with my coffee.

What are you usually doing at 11pm? I’m usually asleep, unless I’ve decide to commit to a Netflix marathon and then who knows what time I’ll be asleep.

What is something most people don’t know about you? Surprisingly I can think of a few things. I’ve never had oysters, I can belly dance (don’t ask me to though) and when I was little I wanted to be a spy.

Tell us a bit about your story. What defines you?I was born in Manly on the Northern Beaches and have grown up by the coast my whole life. It’s my happy place and there is nothing more calming for me than sitting and watching the waves. I would say the things that define me are my loved ones (human and animals), my passion which I pour into my business, Harper Collective and my love for deep, juicy conversations which is what I cultivate on my podcast, Honestly Imperfect.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your life? The biggest challenge I have faced in my life is supporting loved ones with mental health. It’s a long journey that requires patience, trust and an abundance of unconditional love.

How did you overcome that challenge? As many would know mental health is something that can always be present but I have learned that this experience is also my greatest gift. The most challenging moments are often our biggest times of growth.

What has been the biggest lesson you have learnt? To always have compassion in your heart. Everyone has a hidden story and the kinder we can be the more we make this world a better place.

What would you tell your 15 year old self? To celebrate what makes you unique.

What is your biggest life tip? Have more fun! I think sometimes we take life too seriously and at the end of the day none of us make it out alive so we may as well soak in every moment and ditch sweating the small stuff.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing women today? Unfortunately there are a lot, from mental health to domestic violence and a lack of women in positions of power. I couldn’t pick one because I think they are all important and that it’s essential that we become educated on ways that we can create positive, impactful change on issues that resonate with us.

What do you think is the biggest opportunity facing women today? As women we have come a very long way in such a short amount of time. I’m always so inspired by the trailblazing women I see making waves out there. I would say one of the biggest opportunities is the advances in technology that allow women to create financial independence and pursue a career that allows them to work from anywhere.

Finish the sentence. This is me …This is me Alicia, the girl who dares you to go for that big dream that is on your heart.
